5D diamond painting uses faceted resin drills that reflect light from five directions, giving finished artwork a vivid, sparkling 3D effect. The '5D' refers to the five-sided facets on each drill. This generator creates charts fully compatible with standard 5D diamond painting drills from any major brand.

Full drill means every part of the canvas is covered with drills — the finished piece has no exposed background. Partial drill covers only the focal area while the rest is pre-printed. For custom photo patterns generated by this tool, full drill gives the most complete and detailed result.

Time depends on canvas size, drill count, and your pace. A 20×20 cm partial drill canvas takes 3–5 hours. A 40×50 cm full drill canvas typically takes 20–40 hours spread over several sessions. Most hobbyists work 1–2 hours per session and enjoy the meditative process.

The tool uses the Diamond Dotz color system — a 461-color palette. This ensures the generated drill colors are compatible with standard diamond painting kits and supplies.

You need: (1) a printed or pre-printed adhesive canvas, (2) diamond drills in the required colors, (3) a stylus pen (usually included in kits), (4) a wax pad to grip drills, and (5) a tray to sort drills. This generator provides the drill inventory list so you know exactly which colors and quantities to purchase.

Yes. Use the color count slider to merge similar shades into fewer colors — ideal if you want a simpler pattern or plan to buy fewer drill varieties. You can also manually exclude specific colors after generation using the editor's color panel.

The best photos have: (1) a clear, well-lit subject against a simple background, (2) high contrast between the subject and background, (3) fewer than 8 dominant colors for a clean palette, and (4) a resolution of at least 500×500 pixels. Portraits, pets with plain backgrounds, and landscapes with strong color blocks work best.

JPG and PNG are supported. For best results, use a clear high-contrast photo with a well-defined subject against a simple background.

That depends on your photo and the granularity setting. By default the generator merges similar colors and typically produces 15–40 distinct drill colors. A simple pet portrait might yield 12–20 colors; a complex landscape might have 30–50. You can reduce this further with the color count slider.

Yes. After generating, switch to manual edit mode and select the pencil or fill tool to repaint individual cells with any color in the palette. You can also bulk-exclude a color (treating it as background) or highlight a single color to check its distribution. All edits support undo/redo.

Yes. Use the granularity setting to control how many squares wide your pattern is. A higher value gives more detail. The default is 80 squares, which suits most standard diamond painting canvas sizes.

For beginners, 20×20 cm (about 80×80 drills) is ideal — small enough to finish in a weekend but large enough to see the image clearly. Set granularity to 40–60 for a manageable drill count. As you gain experience you can move to 30×40 cm or larger formats.

The generator exports a drill inventory list with exact counts per color code — no manual calculation needed. Each count includes a 5% buffer for dropped or lost drills. Standard 5D drills are sold in bags of 200 (about 10g), so divide your count by 200 to estimate how many bags to buy per color.

Yes. After generating your pattern, click Download to export a PNG grid image you can print. The file includes numbered symbols for each drill color.

After downloading, open the inventory CSV. Each row shows the Diamond Dotz color code, the color name, and the exact drill count needed. Search by code on Amazon, AliExpress, or your local craft store. Most suppliers sell by the bag (200 drills); round up to the nearest bag for each color.

Apply a dedicated diamond painting sealer (brush-on or spray) to lock drills in place permanently. Let dry flat for 24 hours before framing. Choose a deep-profile frame (at least 1.5 cm depth) to accommodate the drill height, or have it stretched on a canvas frame for a gallery look. Roll-up storage after sealing is also possible for large pieces.
